Hi There,

I am wondering if anyone has experienced random episodes of fairly violent vomiting and fatigue with "rocky" eyes which last for 6-10 hrs.  Declan experiences this from time to time.  First I though it was viral each time but as I realized it was not accompanied by fever and often very short lived, it seemed different from when he was truly sick with a stomache bug.  We then thought it was symptomatic of his electrolytes being off (low bicarbonate) and now I wonder if it could be something else.  Just wondering if anyone has shared this experience?  It is very different from the spit ups or wet burps he has after eating and it usually tackes about a day to come back to his full self.

Thank you,

Lara

Could this be some sort of seizure ?

Ben's seizures are not at all 'normal' and it was a job to convince the experts that his episodes were not viral or bacterial.

Hi Andy,

We did look at that possibility.  I was thinking that might be a possibility as he is so tired (completely wiped out) immediately following.  Unfortunately (or fortunately)  two EEGs  and no conclusive evidence of seizures.  Of course it is hard to be sure unless you conduct the EEG exactly as this is happening.  Does Ben ever have a similar experience?  Also may I ask how old is Ben and how are you all doing?  It is very nice to meet you.  Please feel free to post or contact me directly at my email laramargareto@verizon.net.

thank you!

Lara

I was also going to say that it could be seizures. Vinny will often vomit when he has a seizure and the "rocky eyes"... I would definitely visit with your neuro and talk about upping his meds. Videotape him the next time it happens and show that to the doc. Good luck.

Hi Lara

Ady is my husband, Ben's Dad.  Ben first started getting seizures when he was just under 18 months old.  It started with the darting eyes, being unresponsive, being sick (until there was nothing left) either initally or after a while and then he would sleep for about 7 hours whatever time of day the incident was.  It does sound like it may be a possibility, Ben's EEG was negative.  Ben is now 7 yrs 2 months and is pretty well, seizures are controlled with medication and if they start to break through then we know it's time to start thinking about increasing the dose because he has grown.  More detailed info is on his website.

Hope everyone is well and your pregnancy continues well?

Sally x

Hi Sally AND Andy!

Sorry I did not make the connection.  Declan is doing well again and I will take all the input from the forum to our Nuerology appointment later this month.  Also I did not think to videotape the issue but that is a good idea.  We are all settling back into the routine and my pregnancy is going very well.  thank you.  We have two months to go and Declan is very excited now and starting to look at my belly every time we talk about the baby.  I will let you know all the details when she arrives.

talk to you soon!

Lara

Hi and thank you everyone,

I will take all the input from the forum to our Nuerology appointment later this month.

Our MD (based on blood work) felt that is was very likley Declan had a virus .  Have you found that a virus will set off seizures?

Thank you,

Lara
