Sarp has been throwing since he was born. He copuld not get weight properly and he was hospitalized dur to this reasıon when he was 3 months old.
Until we had had Nissen Fundoplication, when he was taking 100 ml every 3 hours by NG, he was throwing 3 times at the first hour, the second hour he throws 4 or more times and at the third hour nothing remains in the stomach other than a yellow liquid. He was really suffering from it.
My mother was something like a washing machine because she was spending half of the day by washing and drying his clothes. After that we decided to buy a cloth which we use at hairdressers for protecting our clothes. (I do not know the name of it) We bought 3. When he throws to that cloth we use the next and wash the dirty one and change the cloth till night. The main problem of us was not of washing the cllothes but he was aspirating what he throws and having an aspiration pnomony everymonth. We waited for recovery and after 15 days again we had had the next pnomony. It was really unbelievable.
After we had the Nissen and G Tube operation, he has not thrown anymore. We thought that he is not thowing up because we are feeding with Gtube and giving less amount of formula. But for the time being we reached the amount of feeding that he was taking before he was hospitalized. But he can not manage to throw. (Knock on the wood)
Nissen is an unbelievable revolution for us. I completely feel like it is a milestone for Sarp.

I made a chart for logical understanding of Nissen fundoplication. May be it might be helpful to those who wants to have the operation but afraids to have it. I will send it to you from my private pc. since my official pc does not allow attachment.
Yes Sarp has a one finger lenght of suture by laser on his stomach but the most important thing is he is not throwing anymore. Isn't it.

Hi
yes Ben had a fundoplication, there's some info about it on his website. It is a big operation and it took his whole system about 3-4 months to settle down afterwards but in the long run it has been worth it. When he first had his feeding tube put in aged 2 years it would not work at all, everything came up, it started to work after he was 3. He has medicine for reflux also and we have to give him feeds when gastrostomy feeding little and often.
Best wishes
Sally x |

Hiedi,
Do you do bolus feedings (gravity feeds) or use a feeding pump?

As Gershie got older he had trouble with vomitting, and we would change meds and it would work for a while. When it was bloody and the stool was positive for blood, we would try to give him a rest and would use Mylanta of all things. After months of blood everywhere, ultimately we did the fundo. I wish we had done it years earlier! I did hear a friend whose child was vomitting constantly finally found out her daughter was allergic to the hypoallergenic formula, all milk products, and so many other things that now they know what she can have, she is beginning at almost 2 to gain weight. Even though our kids have trouble, I guess we can't ignore the normal causes of vomitting either. |

Dylan and Riley both had a fund application at the same time they had there gi tubes put in. we are very happy with how they handled it and....they have managed to gain weight ( actually that was never an issue for us) but no throwing up. Some gagging but all in all we are happy with the way the surgery went for both of them |
