Ben is 8 years old and sleeps alot when is ill with a fever or an illness but in the last couple of months he, on two or three occasions has slept for 24 hours straight. All the way through a whole day. There is no waking him up.    DWe take his temp.and monitor his oxygen and heart rate and they are fine so we let him sleep.  When he does wake up he has been his normal cheerful self.

Any ideas?

Thanks. Abby and Ben (zzzzz)

LILLIANA(21 MONTHS OLD) HAS SLEPT 18 TO 24 HOUR IN A DAY.  SHE PROBABLY WOULD SLEEP LONGER BUT WE WAKE HER UP.  SHE USUALLY DOES THIS SUNDAYS OR MONDAYS AFTER A BUSY DAY OF RUNNING AROUND.

Paul'ani is the exact same way when she is not feeling well. If she has a fever or just plan old not feeling well (increased secretion, coughing etc.), we usually keep her in the bedroom with the Air conditioner on and dress her in light clothing (we live in Hawaii) she will usually sleep for 24 hours. Paul'ani would not wake up as much as we try, so we just let her rest. And then when she wakes up the next day she feels a whole lot better. All back to normal.

But at the same time we administer meds and feeds. I know that when I am not feeling well all I want to do is rest as well and I think that is the best medicine for all of us. We always try this method first and most of the time it works and if it doesn't, we usually take her to the Doctors the next day. Obviously something else is going on. Most likely an ear infection. A whole day of rest works very well for her. I hope I was of some help to you. Good luck...hugs to Ben.

Hi Everybody,
Sleeping, what is that? Is that something to eat? Drink? I do not know that activity since 15 months. Because Sarp has not been sleeping night and day.

When he was born he slept 2 hours a day in total. When he get 6 months he was better than it but he was still  a night men. He is 15 motnhs old now and we still have sleeping problems at night. We started to give him Melatonin 3 months ago. It worked at the first month and he slept 5 hours at night but now he returned back and sleeps at 00:00, wake up at 03:00 -04:00 A.M. with his mother. Mother goes to work and he starts to sleep. Actually he does not sleep too much during day, so I do not think the reason why he is not sleeping at night is because he sleeps during day time.
Any comment? Do you think it will recover? Do you think the mother will go to work someday with a fully satisfied bed sleep?
Thanks
Bihter

Hi Daisy- Thanks!  Paul'ani and Benjamin sound very similar. Doesyour duaghter have high tone or low tone? Ben can be very stiff so I think this wears him out too.  He slept allnight and all day yesterday and woke up at 7pm completely happy and looking good.  He must be fighting something.

All the best Abby

Hi Bihter,

As so very well remember, Benjamin was not a good sleeper at Sarp's age and still has a hard time falling asleep but once there is out.  Does Sarp take acetazolamide (diamox)?  I found that we hd beeter luck with sleeping if we gave Ben his morning dose of this and then another dose around 3pm. If given any later it kept him up at night. I hope this helps. Where do you live?

All the best,

Abby

Hi Abby,

Thank you for your reply. Is Diamox a kind of medication for sleeping?

By the way, I am living in Turkey....

The best thing we have found for Kyle is Melatonin, just buy it at the store.  Before using the Melatonin sleeping was all over the place and definetly not through the night.  He takes one pill of Melatonin (3mg) dose crushed through the tube.  We recently switched to the liquid because his Mikey got clogged,

the couple of times this happened where they slept for a very long period of time  i beielve it was riley, it was cause we belive he had a seaizure and thats why he slept like that. we used melantonine(sp?) and it did nothing for us. The boys are now on clonzapam which helps them sleep at night for a "normal" amount of time. But than again there are time when they are both wide awake at 3 am.....

We've noticed an increase in Kyles sleeping the last few weeks quite a change from couple of years ago when 2 hours was heaven.  Not sure if its paqrt of the throyd problem because his levels are in the middle or if its another progression of the disease
